Festival International Film Black Montréal

2009 Awards Ceremony

Montreal, October 1, 2009 – What a start for the Montreal International Black Film Festival, a festival marked by unforgettable moments, such as the memorable meeting with director Lucien Jean-Baptiste. The theatre was packed for his film La Première étoile at Cinéma du Parc, and the audience fell under the spell of this touching and inspiring story and family. It was quite natural that this film would receive the Best Fiction Feature Film award. The presence of Jimmy Jean-Louis also set the tone for the years to come. The famous Hollywood actor and star of the American series “Heroes” came to present two films at the festival: “Life Outside of Pearl” by Johnny Desarmes and the closing film “Soul Sisters” by Rahman Olagdigbolu. And let’s not forget the special evening with and tribute to writer Dany Laferrière, as well as the retrospective of his films.

The Fabienne Colas Foundation is proud to announce the big winners of the first edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival. The Festival Jury: Benz Antoine, Pierre Noreau and Michel Noreau.
